Tell me what you think. Really. This one gave me some problems for a while. I think I have it mostly worked out, but it could use some polish. Comment at will, I appreciate it. Shaded Bend As we came around the shaded bend, we noticed change White flecked ivy had grown where there was none before Colors of rust leaked into ducts etched by spring’s harsh rains Mist clutched to the corners that could no longer endure Waspish query crawled from the cracks in our minds Are our alterations so apparent? Are our marks more obscure? Is times lash as severe on skin as stone? And yet, for every pressure-chipped fissure, --a tale was told For all the weather-worn edges, --a new surface exposed This gilded epiphany proved the Rubicon’s fare, --sparkful as flinted manna settling our stride Now the axioms of the bend unfold like an altered insect, --and we walk with rejuvenated wonder Conscious that all seasons blend from buds --to blossoms --to berries While still ignoring the crystalline clink of two coins for the coming ferry |

Mod Post: Tagging I was going to do a big mod post about a whole bunch of stuff but I can get kind of rambly sometimes so I decided it might be better if I posted about each issue by itself. They're of varying degrees of importance and some things don't really need to be talked about for another week or two, so hopefully this way everyone will read the messages and pay attention and things will go smoothly. Over the course of the past week, the absolutely wonderful and amazing soophelia went through the entire community (and hw_reqs, as well) and finished tagging every entry. So now I ask all of you to lend a hand. Authors, please tag your fics from here on out. Use the tags that are already available. If you need an author tag or feel that another new tag is absolutely necessary, please send me an email or private message and I will take care of that for you. Feedback on this poem much appreciated. Thanks. Life sometimes throws these things at you, like glitter specks in the wind, and you have to hop and jump about in an attempt to catch them, and even then, they might slip through your fingers.
I jumped and hopped like mad for you, even though I was weary, even though I was tired, but somehow you managed to always be elusive to my grasp.
Sometimes I felt you brush against the tips of my fingers, just out of my reach, a fleck reflecting the sun, toying me with your brilliance.
And sometimes I have to admit, I thought I had you in my clutch, only to find as I opened my hand that my palm was empty, that in that obstinate way of yours, you had slipped through my fingers.
And maybe I didn’t try hard enough, jump high enough, hold you firmly enough, but don’t deny your part in this, you let yourself be blown about in the wind far too much, you were too elusive for me.

What are you reading? As writers we talk a lot about the pen-to-paper aspect of the craft, but not the equally-important other half. So we all know you're NOT reading Twilight (har har) but what ARE you reading? I'm reading Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. I finished The Scar and liked it enough to see what else he's done. For the unitiated, his work is fantasy but it's absolutely not your typical sword-and-dragon stuff. He's pretty grim but extremely imaginative. (Not many books start out with a dude popping a grub from his ass, said grub being a remnant of his roll in the hay with a she-beetle. It's new!) After The Scar and before Perdido I tried to reread Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon again but I couldn't get through it. I've liked it well enough before but this time around it seemed all old, ugly men sopping their food in milk, and women "putting babes to the breast." Meh. Maybe my dislike is just a Mievillian hangover, and temporary, but I think sometimes you just outgrow books, even your old faves. So anyhoo... What are you reading? Current Mood:  curious |
